At New York Comic Con, Allison Williams gave fans an exciting sneak peek into “M3GAN 2.0,” the much-anticipated sequel to 2023’s horror sensation “M3GAN.” Williams, 36, joined Blumhouse’s panel to discuss the film, revealing that the sequel is set to be “bigger and more expansive” than the original. Fans in the crowd were thrilled when the killer doll herself made a virtual appearance, teasing her return.
The actress, known for her role in Girls, shared insights about working on the sequel, scheduled for release in June. She noted that the team is having “a little bit more fun” this time around after learning from the challenges of animatronics on the first film. “When M3GAN rolls onto set — and sometimes she is rolled onto set — the vibe shifts in the room, and it gets way spookier,” Williams explained. She added that just seeing M3GAN in repose on set was eerie enough to give her chills.
Reflecting on the success of the original film, Williams expressed her gratitude for audiences who embraced its campy tone and the viral memes it sparked, especially the iconic dancing robot scene. “We were like, ‘I hope people get her vibe.’ When the trailer came out and people got her energy, we were just so psyched,” she said.
Though fans didn’t get to see any footage from the sequel, M3GAN herself appeared in a video message, addressing the audience directly. “Hi, New York Comic Con. Miss me? Sadly, I couldn’t be there because I’m slaying on set for my killer new film, ‘M3GAN 2.0.’ I’ve been upgraded. See you nerds in June,” the doll taunted, leaving fans buzzing with excitement.
Williams’ Path into Horror: ‘Get Out’ Changed Everything
Williams also took a moment to reflect on her unexpected journey into the horror genre. She credited Jordan Peele’s Get Out for opening the door. In the 2017 film, she played a seemingly innocent woman who, as it turns out, had much darker intentions. “I am really scared of horror movies,” Williams admitted. She recalled how Peele approached her, saying, “I need a white girl who is so innocent seeming and so white. The whitest girl that the world has ever made.” Laughing, Williams added, “I was like, ‘I’m honored.’”
The actress also shared a lighthearted moment from their conversation, recounting Peele’s comment: “You were Peter Pan on live television. You’ll do anything,” to which she humorously replied, “You’re not wrong!”
Since Get Out, Williams said she’s found the horror genre “kind of addictive.” When asked whether fans recognize her more for Get Out or M3GAN, she joked, “If they talk to me, it’s M3GAN. If they just look at me with fear in their eyes and cross the street, it’s Get Out.”
Sneak Peeks and Teases from NYCC
The panel also featured a brief appearance by Mike Flanagan, creator of The Haunting of Hill House, who teased his upcoming sequel to The Exorcist, set for release in 2026. Flanagan, who described himself as a huge fan of the 1973 original, promised to make it “the scariest movie I’ve ever made.”
With M3GAN 2.0 and other horror projects on the horizon, it’s clear fans have a lot to look forward to.
